Obituary

Barbara Lucille Greene Williams, a proud, loving, and kind woman, passed away on November 11, 2023, at the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center. Born on March 15, 1932, in Washington, DC, to Blanche Taylor Bowman and Charles Poindexter, Barbara was a beacon of encouragement, support, and helpfulness.

A graduate of Dunbar Senior High School and Howard University, where she studied Sociology, Barbara dedicated her career to serving as a Civil Rights Investigator for the Department of Health and Human Services. Her life's work was a testament to her belief in hard work, education, and the importance of being supportive and helpful whenever possible.

Barbara was the beloved wife of Russell Bernard Williams, whom she married on September 21, 1959. Together, they raised their son, Gary Russell, who blessed them with three grandchildren, Ciana, Christopher, and Courtney. Barbara's love for her family was evident in her every action.

An avid reader and a fan of jazz, Barbara also enjoyed watching professional tennis and football, traveling around the country, and indulging in her passion for cooking shows and cookbooks. She was a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

A viewing and funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, beginning at 11 am at Journey United Methodist Church, 1901 Iverson St, Temple Hills, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Make -A - Wish Mid Atlantic or a charity of your choice.

Barbara's legacy of love, kindness, and support will live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a testament to the power of hard work, education, and the importance of being there for others. She will be deeply missed.
