Obituary
Bernard “Bae” McLean, 64, peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord on September 25, 2025, with his wife by his side. Born on December 13, 1960, in Norfolk, Virginia, Bernard lived a life marked by dedication to his work, deep love for his family, and an enduring passion for sports. A proud graduate of Manor High School’s (Norfolk, VA) Class of 1980, Bernard went on to build a respected career as a Maintenance Mechanic. He brought his skills and strong work ethic to both Gaylord National and the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC), where he was known for his reliability and professionalism.
In 1992, Bernard was baptized at First Baptist Church of Glenarden, a meaningful milestone that reflected his spiritual journey and connection to faith. Bernard’s heart belonged to his family. He shared a devoted marriage with his wife Marie and took immense pride in their daughter Bryanna. His joy multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren Azari and Braylon, whom he cherished deeply. His love for them was evident in every moment spent together. He also held close bonds with his siblings—Renee, Sharon, and James Jr.—and treasured the wisdom and warmth of his aunts Bessie Mae and Bernice.
Though preceded in death by his parents Juanita and James Sr., as well as his uncle Bruce, Bernard carried their memory with him throughout his life. An avid sports enthusiast, Bernard especially loved cheering on the Washington Commanders. Whether watching games or discussing plays with friends and family, sports were a source of joy and connection for him.
Bernard “Bae” McLean will be remembered for the love he gave so freely to those around him—especially his grandchildren—and the steady presence he offered throughout his life. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
