Obituary

Christopher “Chris” Deon Bracey was born on October 17, 1988, in Washington DC at Walter Reed Army Hospital to Catherine (Cathy) and Frederick (Freddie) Bracey (deceased October 17, 1991). He transitioned from this life on April 4th, 2024.  Chris was doing what he loved; driving his sanitation truck, and he always said, "it's not work when you love what you are doing".

Chris loved life and encouraged those around him to also enjoy life. He was the perfect likeness to his father in so many ways, his passion for family, his beautiful smile, his style, love of food, and the joy he experienced celebrating with family and friends. Chris worked hard and did not walk away from a challenge; he was competitive and loved to win.

He was educated through the Anne Arundel County Public School system before attending Carson Long Military School and later the Massanutten Military Academy. He attended the University of Maryland Eastern Shore where he received a bachelor’s degree in English and Communications. Although he experienced a few curve balls and challenges, Chris overcame them all and put his life back on track. He decided to enroll in the Allstate Truck Driving School where he received his Class “A” CDL license, and never looked back. He was so proud of his accomplishment and enjoyed working for MBG Enterprise Inc. Every day Chris came home from work with an interesting recap of his daily experiences.

Cathy re-married in 1998 to Oda Tynes (aka “Pop”). Chris renamed Oda “Pop” and gained two new siblings (Shannon and ShaRhonda). Chris was so proud of the fact that not only did he enjoy the love and support of his Bracey/Reddick family; he also gained the love and support of the Tynes family. After a few years, he was so happy when his brother Joseph Tynes was born, which sealed the two families and gave him the "Big Brother" title. His inner circle, friends, and cousins were a safe space for him to be himself. He knew what it took to overcome challenges and shared his journey to help others overcome them.

Chris also enjoyed calisthenics and working out at the gym. Family, friends, sports, and fun times at the Friday night Comedy club shows could not match the love and passion of becoming a father. On March 18, 2023, Chris and Takiyah Rhodes welcomed the love of his life Christen Madison Bracey, her name was a blessing, given to her by her father. For Dad, the Raven’s had their newest and youngest fan. He thought about taking her to and watching future games.  A proud father indeed, who had already started Christen's college fund. He took pictures at every opportunity, so he could capture that moment in time. His plans, dreams, and commitment to the life he wanted for Christen were endless. Chris believed in God and knew that prayer changes things, so he would say "God got this” so “no worries”. The LORD blessed Chris with a selfless giving heart, strength, and the ability to survive. When you think of Chris, and you have the opportunity to do an act of kindness – smile and pay it forward.
