Obituary
Dale Augustus Talbert was a native Washingtonian, born September 29, 1952 to the late Barbara Lee Duckett Talbert and Wilbert Talbert, Sr. Dale was the youngest of six siblings. His parents instilled in him the importance of living a Christian life, Christian values and principles, as well as striving for strong, work ethics; and for educational excellence. He was a member of the Bible Way Churches Worldwide, under the pastorate of the late founder Bishop Smallwood E. Williams. He was ordained an Elder in 1988, after later joining the Church of God In Christ Churches, Star of Bethlehem COGIC.
Dr. Talbert was educated in the District of Columbia Schools. For secondary education however, he attended DeMatha Catholic High Schools for Boys in Hyattsville, Maryland. For his undergraduate and post graduate studies he attended George Washington University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology 1974; University of District of Columbia, Master’s in Arts in Public Administration 1988 and Bowie State University, obtaining a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership 2009.
On November 2, 1974 Dr. Dale Augustus Talbert and Janie Katherine Rorie were united in holy matrimony. Of their 50 years of marriage, their two adult children completed their family, Barrington Austin Rorie Talbert, and Brooke Jandale Rorie Talbert.
Together their love story began at Bible Way Church Worldwide as teenagers, when they were members of their church choir, Washington Maryland Diocese Choir. They reside in Woodmore, Maryland for 32 years, a home he was notably proud to share with his family.
Dr. Talbert’s professional career spanned 30 plus years, with a long tenure of dedicated service with DCPS District of Columbia Public Schools for 22 years, both at the local school level and Central Administration. He held numerous positions as an Assistant Principal, Principal, Regional Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent of Operations & Accountability. He continued his work in education and service 2009 with the Newark Public Schools, Newark, New jersey for two years as a Regional Superintendent under the late Dr. Clifford Janey. He later worked for Willingboro Public Schools, Willingboro, New Jersey for eight years as a Deputy Superintendent of Schools under Dr. Ronald Taylor, Superintendent of Schools. After a long commitment and dedicated service to the families, students, staff & community, he retired January 1, 2020 from this school district, returning home to Maryland as a retired man.
