Obituary of Edward Donald Thomas
August 7, 1935 - November 11, 2022
Edward Donald Thomas was born in New York, NY on August 7, 1935. Raised by his Grandparents, Edward attended New York City Public Schools, graduating from PS-23 High School. Shortly after Edward enlisted into the United States Army where he had a long and distinguished career, elevating to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer II.
After retiring from the Army, Edward began his new career as a Signal Systems Engineer with the Mitre Corporation. Edward’s expertise in the areas of Electronics, Sound Engineering, Networks, Communications, Analytics, and more were nationally recognized, and his services were sought after by many major corporations and Government institutions.
Through his Grandfather’s teachings, Edward accepted Jesus Christ at an early age, and has been involved with the church from that time on. As a long-standing member of St. John Baptist Church, Edward remained active in various ministries including the Men’s Ministry, The Leroy Giles Gospel Choir, The James Fenimore Cooper Male Chorus, The Sound Ministry, and The Golden Hearts.
Edward was also very active with his beloved ski club, Black Ski, Inc. of DC with whom he traveled regularly to various Ski Resorts for many years. It was rare that you could have a conversation with Edward where Black Ski wasn’t mentioned. You could tell how much this group meant to him, and why he was so dedicated.
Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife Delores, and he leaves to celebrate and cherish his life: his Stepson Michael Spraggins (Carmen) and a host of caring friends.
