Journey of Life
Frances Virginia West, age 97, the esteemed West Family Matriarch, was the daughter of the late Henderson West, Sr. and Frances James West. Frances was born July 21, 1928, in Pitt County, North Carolina. While sleeping peacefully and family by her side, Frances very graciously made her heavenly transition from her earthly existence to being with the Lord on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
While going through her illness and during a worship service lead by her daughter, Pastor Antoinette DuBose, Frances gave her life to Christ on October 16, 2022. It was a time of true joy for her as she sang, prayed, and heard the Word of God. The Spirit of The Lord was truly all around her.
Frances (affectionately nicknamed Frank by her father, Papa) was raised in a loving Christian family home and enjoyed a wonderful childhood with her ten siblings, who she idolized.
Frances had three children that she loved very much: Yvonne West-Jones, Roderick Timothy “Butch” West, both who preceded her in death; and Pastor Antoinette DuBose. Frances pressed upon her children the importance of being pleasant and friendly to all, and treating people with respect, but always told them don’t let anybody get over on you and always stand-up for yourself.
Frances had a special bond with her son-in-law, Benjamin. She never referred to him as her son-in-law but always saw him as being her son and would not hesitate to tell him that. They loved sitting together just laughing and talking. She made sure he was always taken care of and would frequently ask him are you ok? Likewise, Ben always made sure his mother-in-law was taken care of. Frances also had a good relationship with her daughter-in-law, Rosa. During her illness at home, Frances could depend on Rosa’s care of her and making sure she had what she needed.
Frances loved and adored all her grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren. She had a special bond with each one. Her grand-parenting was active and energetic – she was hands-on in everything she did with them. She was always generous with her time and effort when it came to them. It did not matter the time or the day when Frances would call them and whatever she needed they would make sure she had it.
Frances was loved tremendously. She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter Pastor Antoinette DuBose (Benjamin); seven Grandchildren: Tonya Turner, Terrell Warren, Anthony West, Danielle West (Yellie), Benjamin F. DuBose, III (Valencia), Linwood T. DuBose, Sr., Ashlie DuBose; 15 Great-Grandchildren: Everett Gary Jr., Andre Harrington Jr., Eric Brown Jr. (Auriel), Jarrel Harrington, Jerron Moses, Terron Harrington, Ikea Turner, Diamond Moses, Niyah L. DuBose, Linwood T. DuBose, Jr., Sydney DuBose, Benjamin Moody DuBose, IV, TJ Turner, Janelle Glascoe, Chandler DuBose; nine Great-Great Grandchildren: Taylor Gary, Shamari Harrington, Everett Gary III, Carter Brown, Andre Harrington III, Zoe Gary, Alex Brown, Teon Harrington, Kaiden Gary; 2 brothers Henderson West, Jr. (Pauline), Thomas E. West, Sr. (Vernelle); extended family: Diszell Williams, Danielle Cunningham, Zakiyah AbdulGhaffar, Verna Garrett, Chantelle Robinson, Myleigh Simmons-Jones, Taymond Cunningham, Jr.; The Farrow Family: Bishop Robert E., Jacqueline, Janelle, Randall and Marissa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
