Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished John Thomas Harold Jr. (affectionately known as Tunchie) passed away on December 15, 2024, in Silver Spring, Maryland, following a lengthy struggle with dementia.

He is deeply mourned by his devoted wife of 63 years, Rosalyne Harold, and their daughters, Jaqueline Harold Carey, and Jennifer Nicole Harold-DeShields.

John is also survived by his four grandchildren, Jonathan M. Carey, Micah J. Carey, Maxwell J. DeShields, and Cassius H. DeShields, his son-in-law, Steven Lamar DeShields his brother, James “Mickey” Harrell, goddaughter, Tanya Graves, sisters-in-law, Frances Harold, Eileen Harold, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, John T. Harold Sr, and Pauline Simons Harold, as well as his siblings, Henry C. Harold, and Christine Harold Ricks, and his first cousin Joseph Simons, who was like a brother to him.

John had a zest for life; he worked diligently and enjoyed life to the fullest. His vibrant energy drew people in, making them feel like lifelong friends. He took immense pride in his appearance and personal style. He loved music, western movies, and traveling. John faced and overcame numerous health challenges through his remarkable strength, determination, and deep love for his family. Although John is no longer with us, the impact he made on those around him will be cherished forever.
