Obituary for Mr. Kwabena Owusu (a.k.a. Ahmed or Amadu)

It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Mr. Kwabena Owusu, affectionately known by many as Ahmed or Amadu, who departed this life peacefully on May 21, 2025, at the age of 68.

Ahmed was born on January 17, 1957, at the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman, Ghana. He was the beloved son of Opanin Taidu Kofi Owusu of Kwamo, near Ejisu, and Obaapanin Hajira Afia Owusu of Kranka, Nkoranza. From an early age, Ahmed displayed a gentle spirit, a curious mind, and a deep capacity for empathy and kindness.

He grew up in Techiman, where he attended Ahmadiyya Primary and Middle Schools. His academic journey continued at Ahmadiyya Secondary School (AMASS) in Kumasi, where he was known for his quiet demeanor, intelligence, and thoughtfulness. Even as a young man, he carried himself with a maturity and grace beyond his years.

Following his secondary education, Ahmed’s adventurous nature and desire to explore the world led him far from home. Over the years, he lived in Germany, Liberia, Switzerland, and Canada, before ultimately settling in the United States of America. Each place he called home added new dimensions to his life experience, broadening his perspective and deepening his appreciation for diverse cultures and people.

Ahmed was a man of many interests, but he held an especially deep love for music and photography. A passionate collector of music from bygone eras, he spent countless hours compiling and preserving songs that resonated with memories and emotions from various chapters of his life. His music collection was not merely a hobby but a treasured archive that connected him to his past and brought him solace and joy.

Photography was another of Ahmed’s passions. He found beauty in ordinary moments and took great pleasure in capturing the world through his lens. His photographs now serve as lasting memories and a testament to his artistic eye and thoughtful perspective on life.

Ahmed was a devoted father and family man. He is survived by his three beloved children: Afia Mensah, Jewel Owusu, and Kofi Owusu. To his children, he was not only a father but also a source of quiet strength, wisdom, and unwavering love. He instilled in them the values of compassion, humility, and integrity, guiding them by example rather than instruction.

He was also a cherished brother to his siblings: sisters Faustina Habiba Owusu, Joyce Owusu, Priscilla Owusu, Harriet Asha Owusu, and his brother Ibrahim Kofi Owusu. His presence in the family was a steady, comforting anchor, and his memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.

Though quiet and reserved, Ahmed nurtured a close-knit circle of deep and enduring friendships, some of which began in childhood. The friends he kept were no longer just friends—they had become like brothers, bonded by loyalty, shared history, and mutual respect. His kind of friendship is rare in today’s world—a testament to the sincerity and depth with which he approached human connection.

Ahmed’s character was defined by his calm nature, gentle spirit, and profound thoughtfulness. He epitomized kindness, selflessness, empathy, and compassion. He lived a life guided by deep principles and spiritual reflection, exemplifying the words of Jesus:

“Greater love has no man than this, that a man will lay down his life for his friends.”

He touched many lives through quiet gestures of generosity, a listening ear, and a warm, reassuring presence. His legacy is one of love, integrity, and a timeless reminder of what it means to be truly human.

Ahmed’s absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory—and the values he embodied—will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were privileged to know him.

May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
