Obituary
Marcena Jean Cain of Clarksville, MD passed away on 9/12/2023 living to the age of 88.
Marcy was born on May 1, 1935, in Kingman, KS to her parents Albert and Stella Beesley. She was the eldest of five sisters and brothers, Bonnie Hitchcock, Dixie Battoe, Leslie Beesley and Ivon Beesley. She was a member of the Christian Science Church, watched Dr. Robert Schuller, watched Joel Osteen Ministries and attended her sons' churches from time to time.
In 1951 Marcy met her husband, Kenneth Cain in Colorado Springs, CO, and went on to adopt two boys, Kenneth T. Cain and David Cain. Marcy is survived by two sisters, Bonnie and Dixie, both sons, Ken and his partner Gloria DeCesare and David and his fiancée Maricella Flores, Ken's daughters, Jamie Cheesman and Emily Cain and her husband Josh MacGillis, Jamie's children Madaliene Cheesman, Owen Cheesman and Adya Dea, David's children Katelyn Bortmas and her husband Cody Bortmas and Katelyn's children, Emilia Bortmas and Arthur Bortmas and David's son, David S. Cain.
Marcy started working at the early age of 10 at a filling station near her home, and later, was the manager of a Dress Shop. She dealt Roulette in Reno Nevada and was a seamstress for the casino performers. She continued working her whole life at other various jobs including public relations for a Drag racetrack near Fort Worth. In 1951, Marcy and her husband started in the Thrift Store business. Assisting her husband, she opened 13 thrift stores for DAV in Texas and later with AMVETS, she opened, remodeled, built and operated up to 17 thrift store locations, warehouses and offices across Texas, Oklahoma, Virginia, Washington, D. C., Maryland and Delaware. Her association with Veterans organizations, DAV and AMVETS allowed her love of our country and support and appreciation for our country's veterans to flourish. Over the years, Marcy was given many awards and citations, notably Business and Professional Women's -- Woman of the Year, listing in four Who's Who publications, AMVETS Department of Maryland Freestate Award and AMVETS Silver Helmet Special Award. She held offices in a few Baltimore area Merchants Associations including President and Chairman of the Board among other offices. Marcy's resume, under Hobbies listed, "Work" as the first item. While she may have enjoyed work most, she had an extensive list of other interests.
Second, she listed Community Service, then sewing, swimming and dancing. She was inspired by plants and flowers, having many growing around her home. She also enjoyed travelling with her family, especially paddlewheel boats and cruise ships. Notable trips she made were to Israel, Spain and the Philippines. She enjoyed reading, watching Dancing with the Stars, The Bachelor and Bachelorette and, of course, the Fox News Channel. Probably most, Marcy enjoyed spending time and celebrating at events with family and friends --who ended up becoming extended family.
Marcy was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Cain, her parents Albert and Stella Beesley and two brothers, Leslie Beesley and Ivon Beesley. While flowers are welcome, the family would also appreciate charitable donations to Marcy's favorite charities: AMVETS, St. Joseph's Indian School, and Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue.
